Stephanie Victa was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She is a Polish-Phillippina American. After living in the Philippines then Long Island, New York her family decided to settle in West Palm Beach, Florida. Travelling and experiencing different cultures has become a part of her craft-derived techniques used to construct her sculptures. Victa uses a variety of accessible fiber materials to include polyester, aluminum foil, clothing, banana husks and shredded paper.
Victa has an affinity with patterns and repetition of materials to create works of art. Aluminum foil was used in the installation Preservation to mimic the textured surface of palm trees. The shredded paper used in Pathways I, Pathways II, Untitled Environment:The Seven Spheres has been twisted to make rope which is then used to assemble objects. They are objects of simple beauty and common use. Polyester fiber was in Paradiso to imitate the feeling of clouds and bright whiteness which Dante Alighieri described in La Divina Commedia. It was later reused to make the spirals for Untitled and alludes to a cloud or an ink blot. Clothes were the vehicle for the video self-portrait of everyone in Try it On when she puts on multiple layers of clothes from one pile, takes them off and places them in another pile.
In fall 2008, Victa will pursue a Master of Fine Arts at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
